A Message From Dr. Evans:
I was born in Pawnee, Oklahoma, and knew right away what I wanted to be when I grew up. When I was little, my mother decided that she wanted to go to college to become a veterinarian…and so did I! I took every opportunity to learn as much as I could. While my mother attended Oklahoma State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, I tagged along, where they let me milk cows, fetch hay, and watch as they treated patients. The local mixed animal vet that she worked for on Saturdays also was kind enough to let me “help” out.

My family moved to Northern Virginia when I was fifteen, and I started working as an assistant right away. I worked full time as a technician in an emergency small animal clinic while attending college at George Mason University with a major in biology. When I was ready to apply to veterinary school, there was no question where I wanted to go…Oklahoma State University! So I moved back home to Pawnee.

I joined Veterinary Associates in July, 2014 and have loved every minute here!I enjoy all aspects of veterinary medicine although I do particularly like emergency medicine, internal medicine, surgery, and ultrasound. I also enjoy seeing the occasional exotic patient. Driving from Pawnee every day is no big deal when you have the pleasure of working with other incredible vets and our warm, caring staff!

When not at work, I spend my time fixing up my great grandparent’s farm with Will, my amazing husband. He has also learned to love our rural life and all of our pets, which include 4 horses, 10 guinea fowl, 10 chickens, 2 cats (Death Ray and Greebo), 3 dogs (Virgil, Tesla, and Julio Iglesias), and Velociraptor the macaw.

A Message From Dr. Harl:
By the time I was five years old, I knew that I wanted to be a veterinarian when I grew up. After seeing our family’s female vet come out to take care of my horse, I knew it was my calling. I grew up on a farm outside of Edmond, Oklahoma, where we had horses, dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, guinea pigs, and fish. For most of my childhood, I was fascinated with horses and wanted to be an equine vet. This remained the case until my first year in vet school.

After touring Colorado State University, Texas A&M University, and Oklahoma State University, I decided to go to OSU and become a cowboy. I attended OSU for my undergraduate education in Animal Science and work for both equine and small animal clinics before vet school. I even did an internship with race horses at the Lazy E Arena. After graduating with my bachelor degree, I moved to Tulsa and married my husband, Chris.

Throughout vet school, I commuted back and forth from Tulsa to Stillwater and decided that small animal medicine was what I wanted to do. While in vet school, I had the opportunity to work with the Tulsa Humane Society where I adopted my chocolate lab, Phoebe.

In vet school, I had the opportunity to do externships with the Tulsa Animal Shelter, Woodland Central Animal Hospital, and Veterinary Associates. From the very first time I came to Veterinary Associates, I immediately noticed a difference. I felt welcomed and found that the doctors worked as a team, helping each other out on difficult cases. After my externship, I was offered a position at Veterinary Associates and have been lucky enough to be a part of the hard-working, family-friendly clinic.

I live in Tulsa with my husband, Chris, and our two children. We have two Labradors, a cat, two fish, and a horse (who lives in Claremore). In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and pets, attending church, and going to the gym. I am excited and lucky to be able to work with such a talented group of doctors and practice such high quality medicine.

A Message From Dr. Kunzweiler:
I was born in Nevada, Missouri. My dad was a corporate executive, which meant that I grew up in multiple cities in Illinois, Missouri and Oklahoma. I am proud to call Tulsa my home.

In 1988, I married Steve, my high school sweetheart, and in the summer of 1989 we moved to Tulsa. We have been blessed with three wonderful daughters. We consider our dogs, cat, parakeet, pony, and horse members of our family as well.

I am so fortunate to be able to do exactly what I have always wanted to do with my life - be a veterinarian. When I graduated from the University of Missouri in 1987, I knew the road ahead would be fun and fulfilling.

Throughout my years as a veterinarian, I found I liked all aspects of practice. My first employment was in Hampton, Virginia, just outside colonial Williamsburg, where I worked in an active small animal hospital for two years. For 4 years, I worked at the Animal Emergency Center in Tulsa where I developed my practice skills in critical situations. I enjoyed handling the many challenging medical and surgical cases I saw there; however, I missed the day-to-day conversations that you take for granted when you know and care for your clients. I returned to "regular" practice where I can have fun catching up with a client during an annual vaccination, or if needed, I can rush into emergency surgery.

While practicing veterinary medicine, I have raised three wonderful daughters with my husband, Steve. As the girls have gotten older, I have returned to showing my Quarter Horse. However, since I am not an equine veterinarian, it has given me a new perspective as the client. It reminds me how it feels to be on the other side of the exam table!

Besides my family, my proudest accomplishment was becoming a partner at Veterinary Associates in August 2001. We consider ourselves a family here, and I thoroughly enjoy being with such a wonderful group of people every day. Getting to know our clients and watch the bond grow between them and their pets has taught me about the best things in life.

A Message From Dr. Martin:
At the age of eight, I informed my parents that I was going to be a veterinarian when I grew up. Although I probably could not even spell veterinarian yet, I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life caring for animals. From fish to gerbils and rabbits to dogs, my parents supported and encouraged me to attain my goals. I now know everyday that I am blessed to be a veterinarian and live my dream.

I am a native Tulsan and still proud to call this my home. Upon graduation, my husband and I and our two cats (Howie and Molly) settled in Broken Arrow and started our careers and our family. Ross, my husband is a chemical engineer, but more importantly, he is a wonderful father. We are blessed with three healthy sons (Jackson, Nathan & Hudson), who give each day more meaning and joy than we could have ever imagined. We have also added another cat to our clan, Bennie. He was found in a cardboard box, one week old and cold, outside the hospital. After weeks of nursing him back to health, adoption outside our family was no longer an option! We are fortunate and thankful to be surrounded by our extended family and friends as well.

I started my career in small animal emergency medicine at the Animal Emergency Center here in Tulsa. After one year of the excitement and challenges of emergency medicine, I knew that my passion was in long-term medical care. I realized that I was missing out on the bond that is formed between a doctor and a patient and his/her owner over years of care.

In December of 2005, I joined the team at Veterinary Associates. I am truly blessed to be a part of this family. As a child, I brought my beloved pets to Veterinary Associates, where my dream of becoming a veterinarian began. I know that this is my home, and I look forward to getting to know and care for you and your pets over many years to come.

I was born and raised in Northern California where I grew up on my family’s small acreage with many animals. I then moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma to attend Oklahoma State University for my undergraduate degree in Animal Science. Upon earning my undergraduate degree from OSU, I attended Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine where I earned a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. After vet school, I completed an intensive one-year internship in equine medicine in Weatherford, Texas. I am proud to be back “home” in Oklahoma, and beginning my career in small animal medicine at Veterinary Associates.

I live in South Tulsa with my wife, Julie. We enjoy settling into our new house, going for walks with our five year old rescue pup Ellie, and preparing for the arrival of our first child. On our time off, we love to spend time with our families, sailing at Grand Lake, and relaxing at our family ranch. I am excited to be a part of Veterinary Associates, and enjoy working with the outstanding team of doctors and staff.
