A Message From Dr. Caruso:
"My parents often tell the story of me walking around as a youngster eating raw zucchini and proclaiming that I was going to be a veterinarian. I can’t imagine doing anything else. I am thankful to have such an outstanding group to share my passion with and hope that I can meet all of the wonderful clients that choose Veterinary Associates to provide their loved one's care."
"I grew up in Littleton, Massachusetts and was involved with animals from a very early age. I was fortunate to have parents who supported my life’s aspiration and tolerated the many animals in our home. Dogs, cats, a hamster, a guinea pig, a rabbit, a parakeet, a cockatoo and countless wildlife foundlings and foster animals taught me responsibility and strengthened my human-animal bond. My mother would accompany me to my early morning volunteer kennel jobs because I was too young to be working. With each job my drive to achieve my life’s aspiration strengthened."
"I attended Cornell University and graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science. During my time at Cornell, I played four years of varsity Women’s Lacrosse and one year of varsity Women’s Ice Hockey. It was an experience that built a strong sense of teamwork and dedication within me and also allowed me to travel and meet different people."
"In the summer of 1994, I packed up my belongings and towed my car behind a U-Haul half way across the United States to Stillwater, Oklahoma. I worked in equine research at Oklahoma State University for one year under Dr. Charles MacAllister, established my Oklahoma residency, applied for veterinary school and was accepted. The research project I was involved in was for the approval of omeprazole for treatment of gastric ulcers in horses. As I graduated in 1999, Gastrogard was gaining FDA approval."
"I have practiced in Tulsa since graduating, but during my first seven years something was always missing ... the sense of a team-oriented approach to providing the highest quality care for our family members. When Drs. Smith and Kunzweiler contacted me in June 2006, I knew the change would provide the missing link for happiness in my career. My strength is small animal medicine and ultrasonography. I enjoy utilizing the tools within the practice to uncover the problems that a patient may be having and developing a treatment plan that works best for that patient and their family. I feel at home at Veterinary Associates because of the family-oriented, team approach to practicing quality medicine and know that all of the clients feel the same warmth and compassion from all the staff members that I do."
"I am married to Michael Brown, a sergeant with the Tulsa Police Department, whom I met during my first semester at Cornell. He is a wonderful man who has supported me in my move to Oklahoma to follow my dream (he is also from Massachusetts) and through four grueling years of veterinary school. We have a beautiful daughter, Olivia, who is six years old, has a strong sense of self and a love for discovery in this great big world. It is through her that I have grown the most and been reminded how wonderful the small things in life are – a single red strawberry in the garden, looking at the moon, holding a kitten. We have a dog named Minotoro (aka Toro) and Blanca Marie. We love to spend time together as a family going to the aquarium or zoo, visiting family and friends and supporting the OSU Cowboys. Tulsa is our home. I look forward to many fulfilling years practicing at Veterinary Associates, meeting all of the wonderful patients and clientele, providing high quality care with my new team and spreading my joy of life with others."
