A Message From Dr. Harl:
By the time I was five years old, I knew that I wanted to be a veterinarian when I grew up. After seeing our family’s female vet come out to take care of my horse, I knew it was my calling. I grew up on a farm outside of Edmond, Oklahoma, where we had horses, dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, guinea pigs, and fish. For most of my childhood, I was fascinated with horses and wanted to be an equine vet. This remained the case until my first year in vet school.
After touring Colorado State University, Texas A&M University, and Oklahoma State University, I decided on OSU. I attended OSU for my undergraduate education in Animal Science and had the opportunity to work at both small animal and equine clinics. After graduation from undergraduate school at OSU in 2002, I moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where my husband, Chris, grew up.
Throughout vet school, I commuted to Stillwater from Tulsa, and decided I wanted to work in small animal medicine. While in vet school, I had the opportunity to work with the Tulsa Humane Society. I also did externships with the Tulsa Animal shelter, Woodland Central Animal Hospital, and Veterinary Associates. From the very first time I came to Veterinary Associates, I immediately felt welcome. I also noticed the difference from other clinics - all the doctors worked as a team. Ever since, I have been extremely lucky to be a part of this family-oriented clinic.
At this time, my husband, Chris, and I reside in Tulsa where we have two dogs, a cat, four fish, and a horse (although we keep her in a stable in Claremore). In my spare moments, I enjoy spending time with my animals, playing tennis, and going to the lake. I am very excited to be able to work with such a talented group of doctors and to practice high quality of medicine in a family-friendly environment.
